Coil & Bloom
Coil & Bloom is a fictional creative retreat center focused on helping guests reconnect with their goals and passions.
CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVE:
Coil & Bloom is retreat center for writers, artists, musicians, and other creative professionals who need a space to work on a project or need a creative boost and inspiration. The center offers community, focused activities, and quiet time all designed to help people work through their process, grow as creatives, and recharge from burnout.
The identity brings together symbols of growth and transformation: 1) a snake that sheds its skin, 2) flowers that blossom and bring new life, and 3) an ampersand that asks, “what next?…”
The result is a fluid, infinite-esque, snake winding into the shape of flower petals, built based on the proportions of an ampersand.
The word mark, set in June Expt Variable Curious, exudes personality, but also alludes to transformation as the letters twist and squeeze into their forms. Adjustments were made to the curves of the logomark to match the curves and corners or the wordmark and create cohesion and balance between the two elements.
Rounding out the visual identity is a color palette inspired by nature to evoke calmness and growth and a spiral pattern texture to extend the branding elements beyond the logo.
VISUAL IDENTITY ELEMENTS
While putting this identity together, I thought about the needs of the company holistically.
A retreat center may have different “departments” (hospitality, recreation, food and beverage, maintenance, etc.), so the elements need to be versatile while maintaining cohesion. Their is a variety of elements, but they are all simple enough that they can be remixed in a number of ways, theoretically giving the brand a foundation to sub-brand all the “departments”.
